For parents
How Banana Flip works
From signup to daily practice — here's what happens, how long it takes, and what you'll see as a parent.
Create your parent account
Sign up at app.hellobananaflip.com when you're invited from the waitlist. You create the account; children do not sign up alone.
COPPA consent
Before adding a child profile, you complete an in-app consent step. We collect child information only after a parent or legal guardian authorizes it. See Privacy & COPPA.
Add your child
You enter basic profile information (first name, date of birth, grade) used to personalize practice and reporting.
Guided literacy checkup
About six minutes of child tasks across letter sounds, blending, and related skills — with you present to tap responses during the guided screener. Plan ~15 minutes total for the first session including setup.
Placement in plain language
You'll see a recommendation like “We recommend an 8-week foundational program starting tomorrow” — no tier labels, no jargon.
Daily practice
Most days, sessions run 8–12 minutes. Activities adapt based on accuracy, response patterns, and weekly check-ins.
Weekly check-ins
A short probe roughly weekly tracks trajectory over time and informs larger program transitions.
When practice intensifies
When the engine makes a meaningful change — more repetition, different activities, scaffold level — we explain it in plain language on the parent dashboard, including the reasoning.
What you see on the dashboard
Progress summaries, recent activity, and adjustment notes. The dashboard is parent-gated (long-press unlock) so engine reasoning stays out of the child's view.
